In the mid 1980s major changes were taking place in Accrington town centre.
This photo from July 1985 show demolition work around the area known as Bull Bridge, beneath the town’s impressive railway viaduct.
Old factory buildings and cottages were being demolished and would be replaced by a large roundabout at the end of Hyndburn Road.
You can see work beginning on pulling down the St John Ambulance Drill Hall which was also the Elite snooker club.
The Blockade pub, a famous Accrington watering hole, is on the left of the photo close to Kwik Save which was on the corner of Union Street. The Blockade closed in 2008.
