A horse riding club hosted an equestrian show for all types of riders at Witton Country Park - with attendance free and prizes to be won.
On Sunday morning, many attended to compete in the show set up by Ribble Valley Riding Club.
It launched in April and runs until September with the riders taking part each month. Entries are open until the day of the show or can be booked ahead online.
All members and non-members are encouraged to get involved. That includes the public who want to spend a fresh Sunday morning, like at the weekend, watching the show.
On Sunday, it was the fifth point show, in advance of the final show in September and annual trophy show.
Nicola Kay, 44, attended for the first time, and said: “It’s a riding club show. There are all different classes for different levels of equestrians, dressage and jumping. It is a competition with prizes for each class from first to fourth place. Some of them have qualified for other higher-up county shows. People can travel to compete, but most are local.”
Janeen Gilbert, 53, a member of Ribble Valley Riding Club said: “I competed in the shows for 10 years, then had a five-year break and just this year have started again. The competition is quite straight forward because it is based at beginner levels and those who really know what they’re doing so it is a good all-around show. In certain shows and classes prizes do go to the winners, on the schedule it will tell you whether it is a prize or trophy show.”
The overall highest percentage of the day went to Sian Howard and Ribble Valley Riding Club released a “massive thank you” to all those who showed up. Preparation now sets off for the next and final one on September 1st, 2024.
The show coincided with the Annual Dog Show at Blackburn's Witton Park, starting at 12pm noon with a £3 fee also run by Ribble Valley Club. This included categories such as fancy dress, fabulous fella and gorgeous girl, dog most like its owner and the best trick. The event was sponsored by Berry’s Animal Feeds.
