It's walkies time in Burnley again as the popular Mutt Strutt event, organised by RSPCA Lancashire East Branch, returns for a third year.

The fundraiser will be held in Towneley Park at 12pm on August 18.

Proceeds from the event will be used to look after the animals housed at the rehoming centre in Altham, near Accrington.

The annual charity walk saw more than 30 participants last year, who raised almost £600.

Besides providing crucial funds, the event also aims to highlight the valuable work carried out by volunteers, fundraisers, and foster carers of the non-profit organisation.

The RSPCA branch is encouraging participants to donate £10 instead of collecting sponsors.

Dog lovers who complete the walk will receive a certificate and a goody bag to commemorate their part in the event.

Participants have the option to walk their furry friends over a 1.5-mile-long marshalled route, or twice around the circuit to total a three-mile distance.

There will be plenty of activities onsite, including a tombola with fantastic prizes to be won.

Participants will also have the chance to talk to Amy Taylor from Taylored Pet Therapies, a rehabilitation and fitness expert for dogs.

Pre-registration can be done via reception@rspca-lancseast.org.uk or pet owners can simply register on the day of the event.

RSPCA Lancashire East branch manager Jeanette Ainscough said: "Thanks to our supporters and their canine companions, our previous Mutt Strutts have been a big success, helping to raise much-needed funds for the increasing number of animals who are coming into our care."

She added that it's a chance for people to learn about the centre's fostering scheme.

She said: "The more fosterers we have, the more dogs and cats we can care for in a home environment.

"This is particularly beneficial for animals that find a kennel or a cattery stressful, and it can also help them to adjust to family life quicker."
