The funeral details of a ‘larger than life character’, who died in a horror crash in Rawtenstall, have been announced.

Jake Neary, 31, died after a crash in an alleyway off Parramatta Street, on Friday, July 26.

His funeral will be held on August 9. There will be a service at 1pm, at St Mary’s RC Church in Haslingden. There will then be a shorter service at Accrington Crematorium at 2.20pm.

Afterwards, guests are invited to Haslingden Cricket Club for a celebration of Jake’s life.

Instead of flowers, well-wishers have been asked to make a donation to the British Heart Foundation, a charity close to Jake and his family as many of Jake’s family members have died of a heart attack.

Posting to his British Heart Foundation page, his family described Jake as a “larger than life character”.

The statement said: “Jake was a great bowler, a talented golfer and he always knew how to keep everyone in the room laughing.

“Jake was young, fit and healthy and he lived every day doing what he loved, enjoying life to the full.

“Jake was loved by many and we are incredibly lucky to call Jake our son, brother, nephew, cousin and friend.

"He will never be forgotten and Jake will continue to make an impact in this world.

“We chose the British Heart Foundation charity for donations in Jake's memory as it is a charity which is very close to our hearts.”

Cricket clubs and his family have also paid tribute to Jake, a former cricket player for Haslingden Cricket Club and Ramsbottom Cricket Club.

Police are continuing to appeal for information and footage about the crash.

A spokesperson said: “We’re continuing to appeal for information after we received a report at around 11.20pm on Friday, July 26, of an Audi A5 colliding with a man who was in the alleyway off Parramatta Street, Rawtenstall.

“Jake Neary, 31, was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His family are being supported by specially trained officers, and our thoughts remain with them at what must be an incredibly upsetting and distressing time.
