Members of the mountain rescue team were called out over the weekend to help a number of walkers who got into difficulty.

Pendle and Rossendale Mountain Rescue team said on Sunday at 3.15pm they were called to assist the North West Ambulance Service with a casualty who had tripped and suffered a painful shoulder injury whilst out walking on the Rossendale Way, near to Scout Moor.

The rescue team said: “Team members had been made aware of the incident through a local contact and placed on standby as details were confirmed, before being mobilised to the location.

“Once arrived, team members met with the casualty and their walking party as well as the NWAS crew who had walked up to the casualty’s location.

"The casualty was checked over and given some pain relief by the paramedic before our Hilux arrived on scene and was able to make its way up the track and to the casualty’s location.

"Once safely in the vehicle, a slow extraction was completed back down to the awaiting ambulance.”

On Saturday, at around 6pm, the team were alerted of a situation on Pendle Hill.

The rescue team said: “As we were trying to make contact with the persons involved, we then received a callout from Lancashire Police for this incident.

“Whilst team leaders tried to make contact with the informant and get an update on their location/situation, team members were mobilised to an RV point in Barley Village.

“Information was received that the walkers had begun to make their own way down and found a ‘useable’ route, so we were fortunate to get word they were back to a known point and able to continue down safely.

“One of our team members who was almost at their location, met with the party to ensure all was 'okay' and the remainder of the team was stood down.

“The walkers were very apologetic but these things happen we would rather have a call like this than one later when it is dark or an injury has occurred.”
