Two cycle routes in Lancashire have been named among the UK’s best traffic-free rides on the coast.

Whether you’re a keen cyclist or would like to give it a go, knowing the best routes that have less traffic could be useful when it comes to planning a route to take.

Introducing the list, i News said: “There is no better feeling than riding along the coast with the sea breeze on your face. The National Cycle Network, a UK-wide grid of signed paths for walking, wheeling and riding, offers families the chance to explore the great outdoors in a safe, accessible way.

“Waymarked by the little red sign, the National Cycle Network boasts the best coastal cycle rides in the UK, taking in small fishing villages, rugged sea views, urban landscapes and beloved seaside resorts.

Blackpool to Fleetwood and Lancaster to Silverdale are the two routes that feature in the list.

On the Blackpool to Fleetwood route, you’ll cycle from Blackpool to Fleetwood which is a distance of 9.1 miles or 14.7km.

i News says: “Once you have soaked up all that the bustling seaside resort of Blackpool has to offer, head out along the traffic-free promenade to quieter stretches of the Fylde coast on National Cycle Network Route 62.

“Passing Cleveleys, an ideal stopping point from which you can see the Isle of Man on a clear day, the route continues to the Victorian seaside town of Fleetwood. Fleetwood has no train station, but it is home to beaches, a stately pavilion, playgrounds and gardens.”

Starting in Lancaster and finishing at RSPB Leighton Moss in Silverdale, the second route is longer at 14.1 miles or 22.7km.

i News says: “Leaving the city of Lancaster behind, this lovely section of National Cycle Network Route 69 crosses the River Lune over the Millennium Bridge and follows the river’s north bank to join the path on to the seafront at Morecambe Bay. Here, explore past the stone jetty to visit the statue of comedian Eric Morecambe.

“The gently curved promenade offers magnificent views on a clear day and plenty of opportunity for birdwatching. The Bay Cycle Way (Network Route 700) continues for miles along the stunning coastline.
