FAVOURITES from Alice in Wonderland will be dotted around Blackburn town centre later this month as a colourful initiative returns.

Promoters of 'Brickburn', the annual exhibition, are set to unveil a Lego trail comprised of characters from the Lewis Carroll classic.

Blackburn Business Improvement District (BID) is behind the imaginative promotion, which has been going for at least five years now.

Earlier this year the BID team sought volunteers from within the business community to host one of the brick creations, from August 10 to 26.

A Blackburn BID spokesman said: "This August, Blackburn BID and Blackburn town centre will be hosting the ‘Alice’s Adventures in Brickburn’ Lego trail.

"This means we will have 15 Lego models based on Alice in Wonderland, including Alice, The Mad Hatter, Queen of Hearts and the Cheshire Cat."

The models are set to be installed in their chosen locations on Friday, August 9, prior to their grand unveiling.

The earliest incarnations of 'Brickburn', in 2019 and 2020, featured canine heroes from the popular Nick Jnr series Paw Patrol.

Chase, Marshall and Skye proved so popular in their initial outing that they took the lead 12 months later.

Organisers went in a different direction for 2021, with prehistoric dinosaurs dotted around the town centre.

Highlights of the 'Brickosaur' trail included a whopping two metre tall velociraptor and a parasaurolophus, measuring more than three metres in length, which was made of more than 113,600 bricks.

This was followed later in the year by another festive bricks trail fashioned around the Raymond Briggs' seasonal sequel The Snowman and the Snowdog.
