A Burnley construction company's investments in its diverse workforce have led to a local employment boost.

Ring Stones Maintenance and Constructing continues to make a huge impact in the local community after committing to invest in a diverse and inclusive workforce.

The values-led company is committed to the local community and works with people, places and businesses to create a better future.

Its dedication to the local community has led to 80 per cent of its 72 employees coming from the Burnley area.

It has also instilled a philosophy of providing opportunities to young people who are hoping to start careers in construction with Ring Stones.

More than a quarter of the workforce is now made up of apprentices and as part of The Calico Group, it has also taken on four general operatives working across new build properties and regeneration.

These opportunities for young people have been created by working on large development projects across the borough, including Dovestone Gardens at Burnley General Hospital.

This investment in people comes as the Construction Apprenticeship Report 2024 reported a national downturn of five per cent in apprenticeship opportunities throughout the construction industry.

James Macaree, managing director at Ring Stones said: “In a disadvantaged area such as Burnley, our employment offers and work as part of The Calico Group is to help improve the communities around us and to provide opportunities to those that need it most and help them onto the career path they want.

“Young people play a vital part in our successes at Ring Stones and make us a stronger business for the future.

“We want to provide opportunities for young people to develop their skills and knowledge and help them overcome any barriers to employment.”

Made up of several innovative charities and businesses working together across the North West, The Calico Group works to make social profit rather than financial profit.
