A council is planning to install more than 120 solar panels on the roof of its town centre offices.
Ribble Valley Council has applied to install 121 of the panels at its offices in Church Walk, Clitheroe.
The council says it is part of the government’s plans to reach carbon zero by 2050.

A heritage statement said: “PV modules generate clean electrical power which will allow the council to reduce the carbon footprint of the council offices, supporting the government’s aims to reach carbon zero by 2050.
“A specialist report calculates that the solar PV system will provide the offices with a level of 20.9 per cent self-sufficiency, avoiding 13,784kg/year CO2 emissions.”
The PV system is also expected to save £1,042,898 of public money over a 25-year period which would otherwise be spent on power taken from the grid.

The council adds the anticipated impact of the work would be minimal, saying the panels are a similar dark colour to the existing roof tiles.
The building is also set back from the town centre so there will be no visual impact on the historic area.
