An East Lancashire resident, who has been recovering from surgery, has won a new £26,000 car through an online competition.

Lorry driver Andrew Mayor collected a Volvo XC40 after entering the ‘Best of the Best’ (BOTB) competition whilst recovering from a snapped tendon in his shoulder, which left him unable to work.

Entering the draw on a night out, Andrew was left “flabbergasted” when he received a call from BOTB presented Christian Williams – who was eager to see his reaction.

Andrew said: “I was dazed and confused when I found out and was on cloud nine for a while.

“Something like this doesn’t happen to someone like me, and it’s life-changing.”

The Burnley resident hopes the money he can raise from his new car can be invested into his new car valeting business.

He added: “This win has come at such a good time and has really boosted my prospects for the future.

“I would like to take the car, use it for a bit, and then sell it and use the profits to start a valeting business.

“I’ve got five kids and have not seen any of them grow up due to work commitments, so I’m looking forward to spending more time at home rather than being away for five nights of the week.”

The Volvo XC40 is a hybrid SUV, big enough to support the HGV driver’s family.

Christian Williams, from BOTB, said: “It sounds like Andrew has been having a tough time recently after injuring his shoulder, so I couldn’t be happier for him that he’s won this fantastic prize.

“With plans to invest in a new business, it’s going to make a huge difference to his life, and we wish him well in his new venture.”

BOTB hands over the keys to a car each week, as well as other cash prizes.

Since being founded in 1999 by William Hindmarch, it has given away £64m worth of vehicles.
