A 33-year-old man has died following a crash on the M6 at Preston which happened earlier this week.

Lancashire Police attended the crash at Billsborough, near Preston, on Monday, July 22.

Officers were called at 2pm to the southbound carriageway of the M6 between junctions 33 and 32, and found a Seat Altea car had left the carriageway and rolled several times.

The driver, who is from Carlisle, suffered severe head injuries and was taken to hospital, and later died yesterday (Tuesday, July 23).

Det Sgt Helen Parkinson of Lancashire Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “My thoughts are very much with the man’s family and loved ones at this distressing time."

A file will be prepared and passed to HM Coroner in due course.

A woman in her 20s and two children who were passengers in the car were also taken to hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

Another passenger, a woman in her 60s, remains in hospital.

Police continue to appeal for witnesses to the crash and for anyone who has dashcam footage from the motorway around 2pm.

"A 33-year-old man has died following a collision on the M6 at Billsborough, near Preston, which happened earlier this week.

"Our officers were called at 2pm on Monday (July 22) to the southbound carriageway of the M6 between junctions 33 and 32.

"They found that a Seat Altea car had left the carriageway and rolled several times.

"The driver, who is from Carlisle, suffered severe head injuries and was taken to hospital.

"Sadly, he died yesterday (July 23). A file will be prepared and passed to HM Coroner in due course.

"A woman in her 20s and two children who were passengers in the car were taken to hospital for treatment and have since been discharged.

"Another passenger, a woman in her 60s, remains in hospital.

"We continue to appeal for witnesses to the collision and for anyone who has dashcam footage from the motorway around the time of the collision.
