A driver was stopped by police on the motorway after their vehicle registration plate was blocked by a bicycle.

Lancashire Police reminded the driver that when reading manufacturer instructions on how to mount cycle carriers to their vehicles, registration plates and lights need to be visible.

A picture uploaded by the police shows a black BMW with a bicycle attached on the back, blocking their registration plate on the M6 motorway near Garstang and Preston.

The driver was stopped and issued a fixed penalty for registration plate being obscured.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Road Police said: "When reading manufacturer instructions on how to mount cycle carriers to their vehicles the part about registration plates [and] lights being visible is also read.

"This driver on M6 near Garstang was stopped and issued a fixed penalty for registration plate being obscured."
