A Burnley woman is calling for baggage handlers to be more careful when moving people’s items after her high-end suitcase was damaged.
Sally Jacks travelled from Leeds Bradford Airport to Malaga-Costa del Sol Aiport on Friday (July 19) for a holiday and a video about her damaged suitcase has gone viral on TikTok.
Sally, a shopping channel presenter, was dismayed to discover that her Betsey Johnson suitcase, which she bought in a set that cost around £400, had been damaged.

The bottom of the suitcase had been scratched and one of the wheels had been completely torn off.
She said: “I have a ‘drunk’ case now because a wheel has come off. They have completely ruined it.
“I treated myself to an expensive set a couple of years ago and never owned expensive luggage before. Looking back, I probably should have got myself a cheap set – but I have done and now it needs to be replaced.”
Sally complained to Jet2, who organised her package holiday, and was offered £50 in compensation or a replacement Antler Shell shell suitcase.
According to Sally, this does not cover the cost of her high-end suitcase which she purchased in a set of three.
She said: “The people I have dealt with at Jet2 have been really lovely but they can’t do any more for me. I now have to take this further when I get home.
“I want them to try and meet me halfway here because I can’t get a case like that for £50. I am also not going to accept the Antler as it doesn’t match my other two cases.
“My job entails a lot of travelling and we’ve had luggage damaged before. Normally [airlines] replace the luggage them like-for-like and I have never been offered as little as £50.”
Sally is not blaming Jet2 for the damage and believes the damage was caused by luggage handlers at either Leeds Bradford Airport or Malaga Airport. She is urging handlers to be more careful with other people’s belongings.
She said: “There is no excuse. We don’t know the baggage handlers’ side of the story [or the pace they work out] but it’s it is management’s job to try and rectify this problem.
“I have seen some horrific things happen to cases. [Some] baggage handlers do not give a s***. Please be careful with other people’s luggage!
“It’s worth noting that if you have a damaged case it has to be reported in the airport before you can leave, otherwise it can’t be proven.”
Sally posted the video to her TikTok channel. At the time of writing it has received more than 495,000 views. Many commenters have shared their own ‘horror’ stories of damaged luggage at various airports.
One commenter said: “This happened to mine when I went on my holiday last month!
“Suitcase came back with the zip snapped off, scratches all over, the fabric case was ripped.”
“I had a pushchair that came off the plane and onto the carousel in four different pieces,” said another.
Another said: “I used to buy cheap cases but after having one slashed and all my contents spilled all over the conveyor belt I wouldn't do it again. I now use hard shell.”
Jet2, Leeds Bradford Airport and Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport have been approached for comment.
