An early years setting in Colne where staff do not 'meet the needs of all children' has been rated 'requires improvement' by Ofsted.

Innisfree Child Care Limited, on Langroyd Road, was inspected by Ofsted on June 19.

A report published by Ofsted on July 22 described how 'since the last inspection, the provider has not ensured that the arrangements for supervisions and monitoring staff is consistent'.

The report said: "Staff do not have regular opportunities to improve their effectiveness and meet the needs of all children. Although there is a key person system in place, not all staff understand the purpose of the role. Therefore, at times of transition, the key information for some children is not shared.

"Furthermore, although there are vetting procedures in place, these are not followed consistently. This does not have a significant impact on children. For example, all staff have a disclosure and barring check.

"The provider has failed to notify Ofsted about changes to the registration. However, she has since taken action to rectify this. This has not had a significant impact on the children's safety, well-being or learning and development."

At their last inspection in 2018, they were rated 'good'. In this year's report, the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management were all rated 'requires improvement'.

However, there were parts of the report that praised the early years setting.

The report said: "Children are warmly greeted by the manager and staff on their arrival. Settling-in procedures are effective and new children develop secure attachments with their key person.

"This helps children's emotional development. Staff work closely with parents to identify children's starting points and gather information about children's interests and what they can already do.

"They use this information well to plan an effective curriculum. Staff are positive role models. They speak to each other with respect and they ask children before they change nappies."
