A car crashed into a house in Oswaldtwistle last night, Saturday, leaving two people in hospital.

A man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving in relation to the crash, which happened on Newthorn at around 8.20pm.

Two people were taken to hospital by North West Ambulance Service after one had to be cut from the vehicle by the fire service.

A police spokesperson said: "We received a report of a car colliding with a brick wall and then a house in Newthorn, Oswaldtwistle, at around 8.15pm yesterday (July 20).

"Two men, both in their 20s, have been taken to hospital with serious injuries.

"Thankfully, neither of their injuries are thought to be life-threatening.

"An investigation is underway, and a 27-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink-driving.

"Anyone with information or footage that can assist enquiries is asked to contact 101 quoting log 1427 of July 20."

A fire service spokesperson said: "Two fire engines from Hyndburn and urban search and rescue appliances attended a road traffic collision where a car had crashed into a domestic property on Newthorn in Oswaldtwistle.

"Firefighters extricated one casualty using Holmatro cutting and spreading equipment.

"Two casualties were then conveyed from the scene to the hospital by North West Ambulance Service.

"The fire service was in attendance for approximately one hour."
