He appeared in the dock at Preston Crown Court on Wednesday (July 17) for a further case management hearing, where he entered a guilty plea.

A mention hearing has been set for July 26, with the defendant to attend, where it is expected a sentence date will be set.

The original trial date of September 9 will be vacated.

Wrona has been remanded back into custody.

A police spokesperson said: "Our thoughts remain with Richard's family, who continue to be supported by specially trained officers."

At the time an investigation was launched in April, detective chief inspector Jill Riley said: “First and foremost my thoughts are with Richard’s loved ones at this difficult time.

“We are asking anyone who saw or heard a disturbance or anything suspicious, in the area of New Market Street yesterday afternoon to make contact with us.

“I know people will be understandably concerned by what has happened. I would like to reassure them that this is being treated as an isolated incident and there is no wider threat to the public.”
