A councillor has released a ‘sneak peek’ at improvements set to be made at a park in Great Harwood.
The Milton Street facility in Great Harwood, locally known as Masefield Close Play Area, is set to be renovated for eight to 10 weeks from today (July 22).
Hyndburn councillor, Heather Anderson, shared an update on the development and met with a park development officer to discuss what play equipment should be included at the site.
There will be inclusive equipment, including a fully wheelchair-accessible roundabout and a swing with an “inclusive seat”.
Other features include a cableway with ramp, and a small trampoline.
When it was announced in March, councillors said £65,000 was set aside for this play area, but external funding was still needed.
Heather said: “Last year myself and Colin McKenzie met with the park development officer and discussed what play equipment we would like to see on the park.
“I advocated very strongly that inclusive equipment should be included. We have nowhere in the area with anything like this and it’s something that is desperately needed.
“I’m so proud that not one but two pieces of play equipment are inclusive.
“I know this may be an inconvenience with the park shut over the summer holidays but due to outside funding one of the conditions of the grant was that work had to be completed by October.
“In the long run I think it will be totally worth the wait thank you to mark the planning development officer for all his hard work in securing the funding and for listening and working on a vision we had for a park that would be inclusive for all.”
