Mental health patients in Lancashire are set to benefit from a stunning garden headlining at RHS Tatton Flower Show 2024.

The £30,000 showpiece, named the 1804 Garden, is the work of 2023's victors Carolyn Hardern and Jon Jarvis.

Upon its appearance at Tatton, a scaled-down version of the garden will also grace the Southport Flower Show in August 2024.

Following this, the garden will be donated to Lancashire and South Cumbria NHS Foundation Trust (LSCft), to function as a wellbeing retreat in the heart of Blackpool.

Carolyn Hardern said: "Jon and I designed the winning Constructing Minds garden last year to raise awareness of suicide. It won the title of Best in Show.

"The 1804 Garden showcases the link between physical health and mental health and highlights the benefits the natural world brings in reducing anxiety and stress.

"We plan to donate it to The Harbour at LSCft so that patients, NHS staff and visitors can enjoy our garden."

Spanning 300 square metres, the 1804 Garden will be the largest garden on display at Tatton.

Features include shaded seating and a large, golden orb composed of steel rings, symbolising the sun.

Clear motifs of skin cancer awareness and the relationship between physical and mental health are represented in the design.

LSCft Deputy chief executive Ursula Martin said: "Carolyn and Jon are incredibly talented volunteer show garden designers and we are so fortunate that they’ve chosen to donate their beautiful garden.

"It’s a stunning, fragrant and tranquil garden reflecting the importance of mental health and physical health.

"We are really looking forward to welcoming it to Lancashire."
