A charity football tournament is being held in memory of a talented Blackburn footballer.

The Aid4Ummah tournament which is held at Witton Park 3G pitches will take place on Sunday, September 1 and will honour Junaid Dalal.

In September 2023, Junaid was diagnosed with glioblastoma, a fast-growing brain tumour. He died in February 2024 aged 31.

Junaid had played for a number of amateur league sides in the North West. He was a regular in the Blackburn Combination League, most notably for EG and also turned out in the Blackburn Sunday League.

He had competed at Witton Park on a number of occasions, winning the seven-a-side leagues and tournaments.

A statement from Aid4Ummah said: “Junaid was an avid football fan and began playing the sport from the age of seven.

"Football gave Junaid the opportunity to express his unique and special personality, his skills and form positive relationships with the community.

“His love for football, hard work, desire and commitment enabled Junaid to win leagues and tournaments regularly.

"His qualities on the pitch will never be forgotten, he was undoubtedly one of the best players from Blackburn and will live in the hearts and memories of the community forever.

“During the last two years, Junaid participated in the Aid 4 Ummah football tournament and this year the tournament will be held in his memory.

“Individuals are encouraged to contribute their donations and all funds raised will go towards a charitable project in his honour.

"Together let us honour the memory of Junaid Dalal and transform the lives of those most in need.”
