A fish and chip shop in Lancashire has been named among the 23 best in the UK in a list by The Times.
Introducing the list, the newspaper says: “In these superior chippies, a fish supper often comes with various regional accompaniments: the black pudding fritter, the deep-fried oyster, the battered haggis, and the poor man’s caviar — aka deep-fried cod roe.
“There’s clearly more to a fish supper than cod and chips, and the following is our selection of the best places to tuck in.”
The Times recommends The Haven in Lytham St Annes, describing it as a “charming backstreet chippy”.
Why The Haven is among the UK’s best chippies
The Times explains why the chippy has made it onto the list, ranking in 12th place.
It said: “It’s worth seeking out this charming backstreet chippy off Lytham St Annes’ South Prom. It’s not the perfectly battered fish, nor that they serve the best chips we’ve tasted on our circumnavigation of the coast.
“It’s because a side door behind the deep fryer leads to a tiny, 24-cover restaurant with walls covered in framed prints of whimsical art, a dresser presenting interesting specimens from the Franklin Mint commemorative plate collections, and a cuckoo clock.
“It’s cash-only and they also sell black pudding fritters. While devouring your 1940s-style supper, you might remark that if the Haven existed in Nice or Naples it would be in all the guidebooks. Fish supper from £6.20”.
You can find the fish and chip shop at 1 Alexandria Drive, FY8 1NL.

Another commented: “It’s been a while since I visited this restaurant - 2019 in fact. It’s under new leadership, so I was interested in how I’d find it. We were greeted by two gentlemen who were polite throughout and provided prompt service.
“My dad had a pensioners fish and chips and I had the regular haddock and chips. I can’t speak highly enough of the quality of food - lovely chips and the fish was delicious.
“I will definitely be returning for more, even though it’s a 60 mile journey for me. Well done chaps! PS - I have a massive appetite and was really impressed by the generous portions.”
