A man from Burnley is walking 100 miles from Padiham Football Club to Cumbria in just five days for charity.

Josh Stevenson and his two-year-old Welsh Terrier, Albus Dumbledog, are aiming to walk 20 miles a day for five days.

Their journey will start at Padiham Football Club in Well Street, and end at the Sunny Hill Pub in Whitehaven, and is in aid of Casual Minds Matter charity.

Last year, Josh and his dog, who is Padiham FC's mascot, walked more than 100 miles for Pendle Dogs, but over the course of a month.

This year they will be sleeping in Josh's one-man tent along their route, including in Gisburn Forest on their first day, then to Kirkby Lonsdale, Windermere, Boot, and finally Whitehaven, where they’ll finish the walk.

Josh said: "This is our biggest challenge and we are very excited to get started. This will be the second time I’ve raised money for Casual Minds now.

"I believe the work they’re doing in Burnley and for the community is indispensable, and it’s clearly showing as they’ve gone from strength to strength.

"Moving locations to a bigger venue to accommodate and support the people in need of their help. Plus opening a shop selling clothes which helps massively to fund their organisation."

Padiham FC, Steeltech Kinetix, and Sunny Hill Pub have all sponsored Josh and Albus with the equipment they need to carry out their walk.

Josh added: "Looking after your mental health is critical. Mental health includes our emotional, psychological, and social well-being.

"It affects how we think, feel, and act. It also helps determine how we handle stress, relate to others, and make healthy choices.

"Casual Minds Matter in Burnley is there to help everyone in need of support, male and female.

"It's grown from strength to strength over the past couple of years, making a massive difference to people's lives in the local community.

"I’m also really grateful for the sponsors' generosity and help. Albus is a season ticket holder at Padiham, and their club mascot, so to have their support is fantastic.

"Steeltech Kinetix is my brother's firm, he’s the best big brother you could ask for and always supports us, I love him.

"Adrian at the Sunny Hill is also one of the most generous and kindest people I’ve ever met."

Josh picked Cumbira as his grandparents, Alan and Mary Hargreaves, moved there in 1969, as Alan was asked to move up there to work at Haig Pit when one closed down in Burnley.

They've both now died, but Josh's aunties and cousins still live there.

Josh will start his walk on Tuesday, July 30, and finish on Saturday, August 3. To donate, visit the Josh & Albus 100 Mile Challenge Go Fund Me page.
