Grassroots clubs and volunteers were honoured at this year’s BwD Sports Council awards.

The BwD Sports Council awards celebrate the dedication of individuals and groups that have contributed to the community well-being in the borough.

The event was attended by the Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen Cllr Brian Taylor, and held at Ewood Park., home of Blackburn Rovers.

The Coach of the Year award was picked up by Alex Curan, whilst Blackburn Eagles were named Club of the Year.

The We Active award went to the Blackburn Hawks, and the Young Achiever honour was presented to ice hockey star Josh Crawley.

The Bastwell Buddies, which is made up of a group of women based out of Bangor Street Community Centre, won two awards – the Health and Well-being honour and the Lynn Hindle Award.

The Volunteer award went to Nasreen Valli of Z’s Defence Academy.

The Lifetime Achievement award was presented to Shelley Whitehead and Special Recognition awards went to Sylvia Liddle and June Steel.

Audley Junior School was named Primary School of the Year. The school had a special assembly to celebrate the honour.
