A person was detained by a member of the public after a spate of burglaries in Blackburn.

A police officer, who covers the Whitebirk, Shadsworth and Audley areas of Blackburn, said there have been numerous burglaries and vehicle interferences in recent evenings.

A local resident stopped and detained an offender until officers arrived. He has now been arrested.

Officers are reminding members of the public to keep doors and windows locked and avoid keeping valuables in vehicles overnight.

A police spokesperson: “I would like to make you aware that there have been numerous burglaries and vehicle interferences in your area over the recent evenings. 

 “A local resident stopped and detained the offender until officers arrived. The offender has now been arrested for all outstanding offences. 

 “Despite a great effort can I remind you to keep doors and windows locked and no valuables left in your cars overnight. 

 “We will still continue to conduct high visibility patrol in the area over the coming days. 

 “If you suspect anything suspicious in your area you can contact us if an emergency on 999 or 101 with information.”
