Schools across East Lancashire are giving pupils a lie-in on Monday morning, July 15, after England take on Spain at the Euro 2024 final.

The country is set to cheer on England at 8pm, Sunday, with the match set to end later than many young football fans’ bedtimes.

St Charles' Roman Catholic Primary School in Rishton and Moor End Community Primary School in Oswaldtwistle are among those opening later in East Lancashire.

Here is a full list of schools opening later, after the Euro 2024 final:

Moor End Community Primary School, Oswaldtwistle

The registers will stay open until 10am on Monday. School will be open at its usual time but this will allow children to “have a slow start”.

If England win, children can come in a red, white or England shirt.

A spokesperson said: “On Sunday, I’m aware a lot of children will be having a late night watching the football. Because of this, I’ve made the decision to have a slow start for the registers on Monday morning.

“They will stay open until 10am. All staff will be on site like normal so school will be open usual time.

“If coming after 9am, they will need to come through the main reception as the gates will still be locked.

“If England win, children can come in red or white or an England shirt.

“As the children came into school yesterday singing, fingers crossed, It’s coming home!”

St Peter’s Roman Catholic Primary School, Blackburn

The registers will be open until 10.30am on Monday. School will be open as normal but anyone who arrives after 10.30am will be marked down as late.

A spokesperson said: “With the Euros final kicking off at 8pm Sunday, we do expect some late nights.

“In order for our children to have a good sleep and start their final week refreshed, the registers will be open until 10.30am on Monday.

“School will be open from normal time for early risers, and breakfast club will still be on as normal. Any arrivals after 10.30am will be marked as unauthorised absence. It's our time.”

Mount Carmel Roman Catholic High School, Accrington

The school will start at 11am for all pupils. Pupils must wear school uniform and breakfast will be available from 10am.

Pupils will finish at 3.00pm as usual.

A spokesperson said: “In order that everyone can enjoy watching the football on Sunday (and hopefully celebrate a win), school will start on Monday at the later time of 11.00am for all pupils.

“Pupils must wear school uniform and breakfast will be available in the diner from 10.00am.

“Pupils will finish at 3.00pm as usual. Pupils who use the school bus will need to make alternative arrangements in the morning.

“If your child is on the Y10 Blackpool trip they need to arrive at school by 9.30am and do not need to wear school uniform. The coach will leave school at 10.00am and return to school at 6.30pm.”

St Charles' Roman Catholic Primary School in Rishton

Mr Kennedy, head teacher of the Rishton primary school, said Sunday could be “history in the making”.

As a result, the registers will be kept open until 10.30am so children can stay up later.

Mr Kennedy said: “This Sunday sees England play in a major football final and I know that many of our children will be glued to the TV on Sunday night to watch the game. This means that many of our children could be staying up until after 11pm.

“This could be history in the making and we know that many of our children will want to be a part of it. It is also a learning experience for them with many important talking points, the national anthem (with the King’s name in it this time), the responsibility the players have on their shoulders, the respect which should be shown to the opposition and the possible disappointment if they lose (and even if this is the case, the respect we should show to the team for getting to the final).

“With this in mind (and similar to last time), we have decided that there will be no change to the time school opens on Monday morning however, the registers will be kept open until 10:30am so that those children who do stay up a little later to watch the game can have an extra hour or two in bed and are therefore well rested ahead of their final full week in school.

“Come on England! St. Charles’ [the] school community is right behind you!”
