Some rail lines are blocked in East Lancashire, leading to disruption of services between Blackburn and Clitheroe.

Due to a points failure, when one of the sections of track at a junction that lets trains move from one line to another has broken, between Blackburn and Clitheroe, some lines are blocked.

Train services running through these stations will be terminated at and started back from Blackburn.

Rochdale to Clitheroe services will be disrupted in both directions. Trains are unable to operate in either direction between Blackburn and Clitheroe.

Disruption is expected to last until 12.30pm today (July 12) and engineers are expected on-site at 11.40am.

While this disruption is ongoing customers may opt to travel on local bus services between Clitheroe and Blackburn.

The number 22 bus departs from Blackburn bus station every 30 minutes and will call at Wilpshire, Langho, Whalley and Clitheroe.

Northern tickets are not accepted on the local buses and customers will be required to purchase a ticket from the bus operator.

A spokesperson for Northern said: For customers on station platforms, please listen for announcements or consult customer information screens for up to date train running information.
