37 vehicles were spotted driving over the limit on a ‘speeding hotspot’ in Burnley.

Police carried out checks on Lakeland Way on Thursday (July 11) after people complained that motorists were driving too fast on that road.

Officers carried out checks on 112 vehicles and found 37 were driving above the speed limit in an hour.

One vehicle was spotted driving at 31mph in a 20mph zone.

A police spokesperson said: “This afternoon we carried out a local speeding operation on Lakeland Way.

“This is in response to residents’ complaints that motorists are going too fast on that road.

“We carried out checks on 112 Vehicles and found 37 above the speed limit in a one hour period. One vehicle will be driving at 31mph in a 20mph zone.

 “The owners of these vehicles will be hearing from us soon. It is 20 for a reason, please don't speed. Better to get there late than not at all.”
