A dog described as "full of character" has been waiting for a year at RSPCA Lancashire East to be adopted.

Lurcher, Scooby, who is only 21 months old, has been residing at the centre since last summer after his previous owner was unable to look after him.

It means he's spent more than half his life waiting to find a new home.

A month into his life at the kennels, over-enthusiastic tail wagging led to an injury causing an arterial bleed, resulting in Scooby's tail being amputated.

Despite this setback, it hasn't dampened his spirit or enthusiasm for life.

Given his injury and the apparent frustration of kennel life, Scooby was moved to foster care with Amy Robinson, an animal care assistant at the branch.

Ms Robinson said: "The first thing you will notice about Scooby is that he is very loving and extremely intelligent.

"He is a happy-go-lucky dog who is a huge character.

"Everyone at the branch thinks he is an amazing boy and we want nothing more than for him to go to a loving new home."

In foster care, Scooby has learnt numerous commands and is getting trained to walk on a lead.

Ms Robinson highlighted that he does have some anxieties and can be reactive when he sees a dog on the lead, although this behaviour reduces when he's accompanied by another dog on his walk.

Ms Robinson added: “He also absolutely loves a cuddle, but if you stop for too long he will give you a gentle nudge with his leg to remind you that he's waiting, and when that fails he will whine at you.

“He weighs 25kg (55lb) but believes he was born to be a lap dog as he will perch himself on your knee at any given moment.”
