An area of East Lancashire has been revealed as the ‘most stylish’ place to live in the area, according to a new survey.

Slaidburn has been revealed as the most stylish place to live in East Lancashire, in a list of the 'most stylish' places by online furniture store, Furniturebox.

Lancaster took the number one spot in the county as a whole, Great Eccleston was third, Barley was fourth and Waddington was fifth.

Slaidburn is a picturesque village in the Ribble Valley, with plenty of history. The 10th century ‘Angel Stone’ carving can be seen at Slaidburn Heritage Centre and St. Andrew' church and can be traced back more than 10 centuries.

Slaidburn inspired a fictional village featured in one episode of the Inspector Lynley Mysteries, which were based on a series of books by author Elizabeth George. It was also used as the backdrop for an episode of Hetty Wainthropp Investigates, which aired between 1996 and 1998.

Barley is a picturesque village, renowned for its scenic walking routes. The village is also known for its Pendle Sculpture Trail, in Aitken Wood. The trail has ten ceramic plaques. Each has its own unique symbols which represent each of the Pendle people who were hanged 400 years ago in the biggest witchcraft trial in this country.

Waddington's s babbling brook and the stunning Coronation Gardens have earned this village the title of 'best kept village in Lancashire' in the past. Waddington is a conservation area and a great place to explore and discover heritage features such as St Helen’s Church, an attractive Victorian rebuild.

Locations were ranked according to the beauty of the buildings, the scenery, how ‘Instagrammable’ were, their best features, and their popularity as a filming location.

Furniturebox surveyed 5,000 people, with panels in each big city and county including Lancashire.

A Furniturebox spokesperson said: “All 60 places on the list would have been worthy winners and show why the UK is such a stylish country, loved by artists, film-makers and tourists from all over the world.

“What is interesting is how influential Instagram has become in boosting tourism in many of our top 60, particularly around Lancashire. It is a massive help for visitor numbers, too, if a popular film or TV show uses a town or village as a location.

“Most of the locations in the top 60 are not the most affluent or fashionable in their localities. It shows that style can be achieved whatever your budget - and that is very true of furniture.”
