Bosses at an engineering company said they are “shocked and saddened” following an incident in which one of their employees died this week.
Police and paramedics were called to BCW Engineering Ltd in Innovation Drive, Burnley, on Wednesday morning (July 3) at around 9.45am to reports of an industrial accident.
A man in his 50s was found to have suffered serious head injuries and died at the scene.
A spokesperson for BCW Engineering said: “We can confirm that an incident took place at our Innovation Drive site on July 3, which resulted in fatal injuries to an employee.
“We are deeply shocked and saddened by what has happened and we are co-operating fully with the relevant authorities on what is now an ongoing investigation.
“The thoughts of everyone at BCW are with the family and our wider employees and we will look to support them as best we can at this time.”
BCW also said claims of staff being made to come in and continue as normal were not true, saying some staff came in for a briefing the following day and then went home while others felt more comfortable being around each other.
The company also said they are putting in place counselling sessions and wider support for the team, for those who want it.
A joint investigation by the police and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) was launched on Wednesday following the incident.
A police spokesperson said: "We were called by the North West Ambulance Service at 9.46am today to BCW Engineering Ltd, Innovation Drive, Burnley, to a report of an industrial accident.
"The emergency services attended and a man in his 50s was found to have suffered head injuries.
"Very sadly, the man was pronounced deceased at the scene."
North West Ambulance Service confirmed they sent an ambulance and a response vehicle to the scene.
A HSE spokesperson said: “We are aware of this incident and are liaising with Lancashire Police.”
