A talented nine-year-old from Darwen is all set to compete at the World Irish Dancing Championships.

Skyler Hewitt, who attends St Joseph's RC Primary School, qualified for the CRNG World Championship in Irish Dancing earlier this year.

The world championships will take place in Corby next weekend.

Skyler Hewitt and Lucy Gibson, 14, who is also from Darwen, attend the Shamrock Academy of Irish Dance NW in Bolton.

A total of 13 dancers from across the region have qualified for the finals.

Skyler began dancing at the age of four and learned most of her beginners dance steps over Zoom during the Covid-19 lockdown.

She recently returned from the OPIDF All Scotland Championship where she won the Intermediate U9 championship and came second in the Preliminary U11 championship and also won the all ages primary Treble Reel.

With that she has also qualified for the OPIDF world championship in October in Warwick.

The Shamrock Irish Dance Academy is an independent dance school until they decide what body they would like to join.

Some of the students have competed at CNRG, OPIDF and WIDA competitions.
