A MAN was caught drug driving twice within the space of a month.

Blackburn magistrates heard the first time Aamer Iqbal tested positive for cocaine and its derivative and four weeks later for cannabis.

Iqbal, 28, of Deganwy Avenue, Blackburn, admitted to three charges of drug driving. He was made subject to a community order for 12 months with a three months drug rehab requirement and 15 days rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was banned from driving for 40 months and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.

District Judge Alexandra Preston said Iqbal had been described by his solicitor as immature.

“You’re 28 and you should know better than taking drugs and then driving,” she said. “You should know better because you were prosecuted for the same thing four years ago.”

Gareth Price, defending, said a pre-sentence report had made a positive assessment of a young man who had made some foolish choices.

“A long-term relationship had ended and other family stresses led to him taking drugs,” said Mr Price. “He is now working in the family business and presents as being ashamed to be appearing in court today.”
