Officers were on patrol in the town centre as part of operation centurion, a police campaign focussing on anti-social behaviour issues.

A man was detained after receiving information that he had a knife.

After a search, the man was found to be in possession of a knife. He was arrested.

A police spokesperson said: “Tonight, officers have been out and about on foot patrol as part of operation centurion in Accrington town centre.

“A man was detained following information being received that he may be in possession of a weapon.

“As a result of a search the male was found in possession of a knife and was promptly arrested and is currently in custody.”
