The annual Darwen Scooter Weekend is coming back to town this weekend to celebrate lovers of scooter riding with a custom show and ride-in.

Organised by Scott Walsh and Blackburn Vespa Club, Darwen Scooter Weekend will commence on Friday, June 28, at 4pm, and also take place on Saturday, June 29.

A group ride of hundreds of scooter lovers will kick the weekend off, with drivers asked to meet at Darwen Services on the M65 motorway at Junction 4 (full access available by A roads).

The ride-in begins at 11.30am on Saturday, with a planned set-off time of 12pm.

Darwen Town Council will sponsor the event this year, with a free shuttles bus from hotels and venues, and dedicated use of a campsite again.

Entertainment such as live bands and DJs across multiple venues will play throughout the town, featuring indoor and outdoor stages on both Friday and Saturday.

All entertainment is free entry, and there will also be a dealer market with indoor and outdoor stalls.

Confirmed acts include The Itch, Brad Soul, Total Clash, The Tall Faces, Acoustic Rising, Strangeways, Owter Zeds, Johnny Boy Pryers and The Lads from Macc.

Venues include The Polished Knob, Artisan Cafe and Wine Bar, and Bridge Street Sports and Social Club.

Fans looking to attend the weekend from further afar are welcome to stay at Greystones Farm Campsite in Belthorn.

A portion of the money raised in the event will go towards charities including Derwent Hall Day Centre which supports the elderly by providing subsidised meals, day care facilities and a place for people to socialise.

Derwent Hall Day Centre is part of Darwen Old People's Welfare, which is a registered charity that aims to promote the welfare of people in the district.

Other sponsors for the weekend include Sympol Limited, The Crown pub, East Lancs Soul Club, Cluck Moo and Max's Badges.
