The mother of missing Oswaldtwistle teenager Jay Slater has posted an update on the fundraising page set up to help find her son.

The search for missing Jay on the Spanish island of Tenerife entered its second week today, with the 19-year-old last being heard from early last Monday morning (June 17).

A GoFundMe page was set up by his friend Lucy Law with a target of £30,000, which has now been surpassed - the total stands at £33,238.

Jay disappeared after an attempt to walk back to his accommodation after missing a bus having attended the NRG music festival.

Emergency services on the island have been searching the Rural de Teno Park and focussing on the small village of Masca since last week.

Jay's mum, Debbie Duncan, flew out to the island last week, and has been added as a beneficiary to the GoFundMe page.

In an update, she said: "Hi everyone, this is Debbie, Jay's mother. Thank you all for your generosity and kindness during this difficult time.

"I wanted to confirm that this is the only GoFundMe fundraiser approved by our family. We have not yet withdrawn any funds and are currently covering the expenses, such as the trip to Tenerife and accommodation, ourselves.

"The funds will remain on hold with GoFundMe until we post a further update on this page.

"We are extremely worried and are doing everything we can to find Jay. Please continue to share our fundraiser far and wide.

"Your support means the world to us and we are grateful for any help you can provide."

A GoFundMe spokesperson said: “We are in touch with Jay Slater’s mother, Debbie, and working with her to keep everyone updated on how their donations will be used in the search.

“For now, the money is with GoFundMe as we work through the next steps.”

Yesterday (Sunday, June 23) search teams narrowed their efforts on small buildings close to where Jay's phone last pinged.

Officers from the Guardia Civil in the Canary Island could be seen circling two structures at the bottom of a ravine in Rural de Teno Park.

Efforts appeared to be solely focused on the one area after days of searches in the village of Masca and the surrounding landscape.

Meanwhile, a TV investigator and former police officer has offered to join the search with his team.

Mark Williams-Thomas took to social media to say he had reached out to Ms Duncan and offered their support.

He said on X/Twitter yesterday: "I have this morning reached out to missing Jay Slater's mum offering the help of my team to get her answers as to what has happened to Jay.

"Lots of speculation about what could have happened and if they give me total access and with feet on the ground, I will be able to say if his disappearance is him alone of it it has third-party involvement."
