Three people have been arrested after a car being pursued by police crashed in Padiham.

The incident happened at 2.21pm yesterday as officers attempted to stop a Kia Picanto in Wyre Street, after they received information that the occupants were in possession of a weapon.

The driver of the car failed to stop when requested to so leading to a short police chase.

The Picanto later crashed into a van being driven by a member of the public in Ingham Street.

A police spokesperson said: "The three male occupants of the vehicle were detained at the scene and later transported to hospital. Their injuries were not thought to be life-threatening or changing. The driver of the van was not seriously injured.

"A machete was recovered from the Picanto. Three males – aged 22, 17 and 16 – have been arrested.

"Anyone with information is asked police on 101, quoting log 838 of 21 June 2024."

A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Firefighters used Holmatro cutting equipment to release two casualties from their vehicle.

"Three casualties were placed in the care of North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) paramedics. Crews remained in attendance for an hour and five minutes."
