A banned driver sped off when police spotted him behind the wheel.

Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard the high-speed chase only ended when a stinger was deployed.

At that point, Rubel Amin jumped from the still-moving car and was nearly run over by the vehicle.

Amin, 31, of King Street, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving while disqualified and without insurance.

He was committed in custody to Preston Crown Court to be sentenced on July 29.

Glenn Anderton, prosecuting, said the pursuit started on the A59 at Samlesbury and lasted for seven minutes.

Amin reached speeds in excess of 90mph and travelled on the wrong side of the road as he headed along Preston New Road, through Mellor.

A stinger was eventually deployed at the junction with Billinge End Road.

“The vehicle, a Mitsubishi ASX, was on cloned plates having been stolen 10 days earlier,” said Mr Anderton.

“There is no suggestion the defendant was involved in the original theft.”

He said Amin had a previous conviction for dangerous driving and had been convicted of aggravated vehicle taking in 2023.

Gareth Price, mitigating, said his client had been out of trouble since the last offence was committed in 2022.
