Part of the A56 in Haslingden was closed after a crash involving two vehicles.
Police say no injuries were reported but vehicles had been damaged.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue said they were called at 3:03pm and two fire engines from Rawtenstall and Hyndburn attended the crash.
A spokesperson said: "The incident involved two vehicles.
"Firefighters used Holmatro equipment and a longboard to release one casualty from their vehicle, before placing them in the care of North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) paramedics. Crews were in attendance for an hour."
Police had earlier warned drivers to avoid the area route from Grange Road.
Earlier this evening, North West Highways said there were three miles of congestion on approach.
The #A56 northbound is closed between the #A680 south (#Helmshore #Haslingden) and the #A680 north (#RisingBridge) following a serious collision.
