A Darwen fun day proved to be huge hit with families despite the unseasonal chilly weather.

The event held over the weekend was organised by members of St James Community Centre, Ash Grove.

The fun day was run solely by volunteers and everything was free for all families.

Volunteer Christine Ainsworth said: “We had a bouncy castle, face painting, mini health checks, craft, food and drink.

“We were also lucky enough to have the fire service and the police join us for the day."

St James Community Centre hosts a number of activities throughout the week including bingo, diamond art, dominoes, mental health group, warm space, adults and children’s colouring sessions.

They also organise a food club on a Saturday where people can come along, register and take home one or two bags of food and necessities.
