A child was rushed to hospital after taking an ecstasy tablet at an address in Blackburn.

Blackburn Magistrates' Court heard the child’s hospitalisation led police to the home of Shane Carretero where they discovered ecstasy, anabolic steroids and cannabis.

Carretero, 33, of Gretna Walk, Blackburn, pleaded guilty to possession of all three drugs.

He was made subject to an 18-month community order with a 25-day rehabilitation activity requirement.

He was also fined £80 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £114 victim surcharge.

Passing sentence, Deputy District Judge Andrew Teate said he accepted Carrertero had not deliberately left the tablet lying around.

“A child did get hold of one and swallowed it and that is clearly an aggravating factor,” said Deputy District Judge Teate.

Graeme Tindall, prosecuting, said after taking the tablet the child was hospitalised and that led to the police involvement.

He said the cannabis found was just starting to grow and the defendant revealed he used the steroids in connection with his work in a gym.
