The family of an Oswaldtwistle teenager has issued a desperate appeal after he went missing after a night out in Tenerife.

Jay Slater, 19, was last spoken to at 8.50am on Monday, June 17. According to a location pin sent to his friend Lucy, his last known location was near Rural de Teno Park. He said he was lost in the middle of the mountains with nothing around.

Jay attended a music festival on the island and then decided to stay with some people he met following a night out, not realising how far away they lived. He then attempted to walk home when he became lost in the mountains.

His friend Lucy told the Lancashire Telegraph that it is out of character for him to be missing.

She said: “I have never been so worried in my life.

“Jay rang me at 8.50 [on Monday] saying he was lost in a mountain. He sent me a pinpoint of his location but when his phone died that cut off.

“It is out of character for him to wander off on his own.

“Police told me they were going to send mountain rescue but that hasn’t happened yet.

“We are trying to share the appeal as widely as possible to get him home.

“He might have a cut on his leg as he mentioned he hurt his leg on his cactus, so he could have a scratch on his leg.”

Family and friends have been posting about Jay’s disappearance on social media and his mum, Debbie, has flown over to Tenerife to search for him.

Groups have since been set up in an attempt to find the missing teenager.

Anyone with links or family in Tenerife have been asked to share their appeal with them.

A spokesperson for The Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said:  "We are providing consular support to the family of a British man who has been reported missing in Spain and are in contact with the local authorities.”
