Organisers of a Parkrun event in East Lancashire have praised the swift action of emergency services after a runner went into cardiac arrest at the event last week.
Last Saturday (June 8) emergency services were called to the Clitheroe Castle Parkrun when a male runner collapsed as he was leaving the park.
Nearby runners and marshals rushed to help before emergency services arrived, and thankfully the man survived.
A spokesperson for Clitheroe Castle Parkrun said the man is recovering in the intensive care unit at Royal Blackburn Hospital and they are awaiting a further update from his family.
The volunteers who put on the weekly 5k event also confirmed tomorrow's event will go ahead as planned.
A statement said: "At last Saturday's event we had a very serious incident when one of our runners collapsed and had a cardiac arrest as he was leaving the park.
"Fortunately, it was possible to get emergency help to him extremely quickly - thanks to nearby marshals and runners and the amazing response of the emergency services.
"It has been a difficult week for him and his family and for everyone concerned, but he is now starting to slowly recover in Blackburn intensive care unit and we hope to have a further update on Saturday morning from his family.
"Event 237 will be going ahead as normal on Saturday morning (June 15) at 9am, but our thoughts will be very much with him and his family and we are hoping and praying for his continued recovery."
