A MAN has appeared before Blackburn magistrates on firearms offences after a weapon was brandished in Nelson on Tuesday morning.

The court heard a woman who was in Nelson town centre with her three children had the weapon pointed at her.

Victoria Forrest, prosecuting, said the victim had been terrified for her safety and that of her children.

Shazam Rahman, 49, of Kensington Avenue, Manchester, was charged with possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and possessing a firearm during the five-year period of a prison sentence being imposed.

He was sent in custody to Burnley Crown Court where he will appear on July 3.
