The crime rate in Blackburn with Darwen climbed in April having dropped the previous month, figures show.

Data from police.uk shows 1,535 crimes were committed in the borough in April – a slight increase from March when 1,515 were recorded.

Violence and sexual offences again topped the list, making it four months in a row – despite a significant drop this month.

Using the data, it is possible to map exactly where each crime took place in the borough and to determine how many instances of each crime there was.

Of the 14 crimes listed in the data, there were 11 increases and three decreases.

Statistically, the biggest increase was in burglary, which went up by more than 50 per cent from 45 instances in March to 69 in April.

The crimes changed as follows:

  • Violence and sexual offences – 552 (Mar) – 475 (Apr) – down 13.94 per cent
  • Anti-social behaviour – 371 (Mar) – 407 (Apr) – up 9.70 per cent
  • Shoplifting – 100 (Mar) – 111 (Apr) – up 11 per cent
  • Criminal damage and arson – 130 (Mar) – 107 (Apr) – down 17.69 per cent
  • Vehicle crime – 72 (Mar) – 94 (Apr) – up 30.55 per cent
  • Other theft – 77 (Mar) – 91 (Apr) – up 18.18 per cent
  • Public order – 75 (Mar) – 82 (Apr) – up 9.33 per cent
  • Burglary – 45 (Mar) – 69 (Apr) – up 53.33 per cent
  • Other crime – 27 (Mar) – 30 (Apr) – up 11.11 per cent
  • Drugs – 28 (Mar) – 29 (Apr) – up 3.57 per cent
  • Possession of weapons – 23 (Mar) – 18 (Apr) – down 21.73 per cent
  • Robbery – 9 (Mar) – 13 (Apr) – up 44.44 per cent
  • Theft from person – 4 (Mar) – 6 (Apr) – up 50 per cent
  • Bicycle theft – 2 (Mar) – 3 (Apr) – up 50 per cent

 

It was a similar story in all the other East Lancashire boroughs, with increases in crime rates recorded in all of them.

The biggest increase was in Rossendale, which went up by 8.53 per cent from 621 crimes to 674.

Hyndburn saw a similar increase, going up by 8.13 per cent from 897 to 970.

Pendle’s crime rate went up by 5.55 per cent from 774 to 817, while in the Ribble Valley it went up by 4.44 per cent from 315 to 329.

Finally, the rate in Burnley increased slightly, going up by 0.89 per cent from 1,225 to 1,236.
