A woman has pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court to stabbing her estranged husband.

John McKenna suffered a stab wound to his neck during an incident in the bedroom of his wife, Ann Marie McKenna's flat on Saturday, December 9, 2023.

The court was told he had been helping his wife move into the property.

Mrs McKenna, 55, of Chatburn Road, Clitheroe, appeared at Preston Crown Court, charged with attempted murder and using coercive and controlling behaviour towards him between December 2015 and September 2023.

A trial was due to begin for attempted murder, but she pleaded to one count of section 18 wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and one count of engaging and controlling in coercive behaviour in an intimate relationship on Monday, June 3, at Preston Crown Court instead.

She will be sentenced on Wednesday, August 28, at Liverpool Crown Court by His Honour Judge Simon Medland KC, and she has been remanded into custody until then.

An order for a pre-sentence report has been made, where McKenna will also be judged to be 'dangerous' or not.
