Two people are in hospital after emergency services were called to Blackburn street after a car struck a pedestrian.

The incident happened earlier this afternoon (Saturday) on the corner of Granville Road and New Bank Road.

It appears the driver had turned left onto Granville Road from New Bank Road and lost control of the vehicle.

The car ended up flipping on its side.

A pedestrian who was on the pavement had been treated by ambulance teams, witnesses said. Fire crews could be seen rescuing the driver from the car.

Lancashire Police confirmed that at around 2pm the crash took place between a car and a pedestrian.

The driver and the pedestrian have both been taken to hospital.

Ambulance, police and the fire service were in attendance.

Lancashire Telegraph: Granville Road and New Bank Road was shut to traffic as emergency services dealt with the incident.

A spokesperson for Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service said: "At 2.05pm on June 1, two fire engines from Blackburn attended a road traffic collision on New Bank Road, Blackburn. The incident involved one vehicle.

"Firefighters released one casualty from their vehicle before placing them in the care of North West Ambulance Service (NWAS) paramedics.

"One other casualty was also conveyed to the hospital. Crews were in attendance for an hour and fifteen minutes."

People had rushed to help those involved in the crash.

Police had later pushed back the cordon as the injured woman was pulled from the car.

The road has now reopened and the wreckage has been cleared from the site.
