Businesses across East Lancashire have been announced as finalists of the English Curry Awards.

The awards celebrate the finest talents in the English curry industry, shining a spotlight on the talents and dedication of individuals and establishments within the curry industry.

This year’s finalists are said to “represent the crème de la crème of English curry industry”, showcasing the unrivalled skills and creativity of chefs, restaurateurs, and takeaway services across the nation.

A total of 10 East Lancashire restaurants and takeaways have been announced as finalists in the awards.

Shagor Takeaway, on Colne Road in Burnley, is nominated for Takeaway of the Year.

He said: “We are very happy and my team is also excited. It’s an excellent achievement to be recognised for something you love doing. 

“We know about [what it takes to make] authentic Indian cuisine, and we wanted to bring that to  Burnley. We have been a successful family-run business for more than 30 years. 

“The takeaway receives very good feedback from customers. We look forward to providing the best Indian cuisine for many more years to come.”

Thira Restaurant in Blackburn is in the running for the Best North West South Indian Restaurant award.

Aroma Asian Restaurant in Burnley is up for two awards; Best North West Indian Restaurant of the Year and Best North West Dining Experience of the Year.

Last year, it had a successful night at the awards, winning Best Customer Experience in the North West, and will be hoping to repeat this success this time round.

Barnoldswick's Barlick Raj Balti is also nominated for the North West Indian Restaurant of the Year, as well as the Editor's Choice award.

In the Editor's Choice category it will also be up against Freya's Grill Jaipur, in Darwen, while Jaipur in Colne is up for North West Dining Experience of the Year.

Hawali Indian in Blackburn is nominated in the North West Takeaway category, while Spice Room in Rising Bridge is up for the Best Recommended Restaurant of the Year.

The awards ceremony will take place on August 19 and will see the nation’s curry connoisseurs gather to recognise and applaud the achievements of the curry sector.
