A driver has been charged with drink driving while having no insurance or licence after allegedly leading police on a pursuit around Burnley.

A blue Citroen Berlingo was seen being driven erratically in Burnley in the early hours of yesterday (Saturday, May 25), Lancashire Police said.

The van was also said to have defective tyres, and police said when they attempted to stop the driver, he allegedly led them on a pursuit through Cliviger and Burnley Wood.

The driver gave up next to Turf Moor following a stinger deployment, police claimed.

He was arrested, and now a man has been charged with failing to stop, dangerous driving, drink driving, driving without insurance, and driving without a licence.

The man was remanded in custody to appear at court on Monday, May 27, over the alleged charges.

Lancashire Telegraph:

A spokesperson for Burnley and Padiham Police said: "This Berlingo was seen being driven erratically in Burnley in the early hours of this morning (Saturday May 25).

"HT48 from the Roads Policing Unit attempted to stop the vehicle but the driver decided he would prefer not to speak to the officers and led them on a pursuit through Cliviger and Burnley Wood, ultimately giving up next to Turf Moor following a well executed stinger deployment by Lancashire ARV’s HR95."
