The outgoing Mayor of Blackburn with Darwen has presented nearly £2,000 to the local hospice on behalf of a mosque and his appeal.
Cllr Parwaiz Akhtar welcomed members of the East Lancashire Hospice and the Jamia Ghosia Mosque to the mayor’s parlour.
The Bastwell and Daisyfield councillor said he was 'delighted' to be presenting the money which was raised by worshippers at the Chester Street mosque.
Cllr Akhtar said: “I was pleased to receive Jamia Ghosia Mosque committee and representatives from East Lancashire Hospice. We presented the cheque for £1,980.21 to the East Lancashire Hospice which was my chosen local charity and was collected in the mosque.
“I feel this really is very positive step taken by the mosque to play their role to promote equality and diversity within the community and helping to raise funds for local charities.”
