The first floor of a building currently occupied by a hair salon is set to become a tattoo studio under new plans.

The Grade II listed building in Moore Lane, Clitheroe, is currently used by Hairways, which will continue to trade on the ground floor following council approval.

The first floor is occupied by one room which will house the new tattoo studio.

A heritage statement submitted to Ribble Valley Borough Council said the change of use will involve the addition of a hand basin, a percentage of the room to be tiled and walls to be painted, and a clinical waste bin to be stored at the rear of the property.

The statement continued: “The proposed use is to be a private tattoo studio space on the first floor, accessible by appointment only.

"Trading hours are to be 9am to 5pm Monday to Saturday. Some days may not be worked due to appointment alterations and/or cancellations.

“This should not affect the surrounding community as it is general knowledge that the neighbouring business’ opening times are comparable to the ones proposed.

“The overall appearance of the property is to stay the same, however a small decal on the window may be used as a form of advertisement, but in keeping with the traditional shopfronts within the town.

“This will give the community a safe and clinical space to receive a professional service. It will be a welcoming environment to current and future clientele, bringing more foot traffic into the town and acquiring more business opportunities to neighbouring stores, restaurants and bars.”

No objections were published to the council’s planning portal, with Lancashire County Council approving of the decision.
