It looks like a giant Scalextric set but this aerial photo taken in May 1996 shows the new M6 interchange at Samlesbury ready and open to traffic.
The River Ribble cuts across the photo and you can clearly see the roundabouts for traffic wishing to head north and south.
The A59 heading towards Mellor goes off to the right with the the road to Preston going off to the left. In the bottom left of the picture you can see the Tickled Trout.
